For more than 40 years, the Empire Group has been at the forefront of residential and commercial real estate development, and this didn’t happen by mistake. Rather, it’s the result of a company culture that encourages and rewards not only hard work and dedication to its craft, but also differing perspectives, innovative thinking and collaborative decision-making.

When I founded the Empire Group in Milwaukee in the 1970’s, I wanted it to be a visionary enterprise. So much of what was being built at the time lacked uniqueness and inspiration – functional, but unexciting. I was seeking to create innovative structures and communities in a dynamic, fast-growing market that embraced the American spirit of risk-taking and entrepreneurialism. Phoenix, Arizona proved to be a perfect fit for my vision and within a few years, I moved the firm to the desert. 40 years later, I’m proud of what Empire has become – one of the leading real estate development firms in the Valley of the Sun, having developed and/or managed over $3 billion in assets while carefully stewarding the hard-earned capital of over 4,000 unique investors.

Every development presents a different set of opportunities, challenges and unknowns. Our values give us a framework for navigating them. They push us to look closer, question assumptions, take calculated risks, stay focused on the details and keep sight of the people who ultimately experience what we build.
Sometimes it's a shift in how people want to live. Sometimes it's a market everyone else hasn't noticed yet. We pay attention. We ask questions. And we're willing to look at things differently.
Conviction without discipline is just a gamble. We study the market, understand the downside, test our assumptions and make informed decisions. When the opportunity is right, we're willing to move decisively.
Because the best strategy in the world means very little if you can't deliver, we stay focused from the first feasibility study through construction, delivery and beyond.
We believe the best partnerships are built on trust, candor and a shared commitment to the outcome—not simply the terms of a deal.
We believe successful development starts with understanding the people who will ultimately experience it. That means creating places that are useful, welcoming, thoughtful and connected to the communities around them.
The goal isn't simply to complete another project. It's to create something worth having built. We're interested in designing places that will brighten a community for year to come.
